A Study on the Information Structure Analysis of the Main Screenof Optical Shop Websites

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the information structure of website home screens of optical shops and to use the analysis for improving and establishing optical shop websites.

Methods: The concept of information structures was examined, and the main screens of domestic franchise optical shop websites were analyzed for their information structure, such as the terms and numbers on the main and sub-menus, fields of menu contents, languages used in menus, icon items, and search functions.

Results: The range of the main menu hierarchy was mostly 5-6, and the content field was highest with ¡°franchise information.¡± Sub-menus were offered only on some websites and the range of hierarchies was 2-6. The most common menu language was a combination of Korean and English. Most of the labeling was in text format. Icon items were most frequent with social blogs and websites offering search functions were the fewest.

Conclusions: When the systematic information structure-which highlights the features of optical shop businesses and brands of individual optical shops-is included on the main screen, improved usability of optical shop websites can be expected.
